About Butyl Grommet

The Rubber Grommet is a connecting strap or ring which is installed into a specific hollow section by using a thin material which has specially developed edge to maintain proper position of the grommet. This grommet consists of a liner that can be easily inserted into the hole and an adjustable cap for the ease of cable access into the hole.

This rubber item is useful for protecting piercer product against abrasion or tear. It also prevents insulated cable, wire or lines that are passed through the penetrated object against abrasion. What is more, the grommet also comes in handy for safeguarding sharp edges of pierced object.

A high strength material like rubber is used for the fabrication of the grommet. The special modling design of this product helps to maintain its proper position to absorb vibration generated from machinery. It is generally placed between tripod and microphone or between chassis and radio for maintaining mechanical floating condition between two objects for inhibiting microphonism.

It is very common that the hole found in metal object or in any hard surface has sharp edges. These sharp edges can cut or damage rope, electrical wires, any soft material or cord which is inserted into the hole. Chances are that the electric insulation wire passed through this hole can break at its end point. It is, therefore, suggested to use plastic coated metal, rubber or plastic grommet to avert this damage. These types of grommets come in handy for shielding cable or wiring against contamination caused by water, dirt and air. The uniform and soft inner design of grommet safeguards wire against external damages.

Rubber Grommet is utilized where electrical wires go through drilled sheet metal or punched sheet metal or plastic casing to avoid possibility of damage. Edge grommets that are commonly referred as continuous and molded grommets are developed in different length and size options especially for this purpose. These types of grommets are available in single piece design that can be inserted manually to reduce spreading of vibration. These are extensively used for easy mounting of computer disk drives that are prone to vibration or for machinery sensitive to vibratory effect. The screws of these equipments that goes through grommet absorbs sounds produced from the chassis. Grommet is truly useful for sound insulation of electronic circuit parts that are prone to microphonism occurred due to vibration. Its presence can be noticed in data transferring cabinets, bushes with good acoustic properties, dense and complex cable or wire, telecom switches, medical devices, automobiles and in hydraulic tube used in aircraft designing.

Exceptional Weather and Aging Resistance

These butyl grommets provide outstanding protection against UV exposure, ozone degradation, and severe weather conditions. The high-quality butyl rubber composition ensures a long service life, even under continuous environmental stress, making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications in harsh environments.

Versatile Electrical Sealing Solution

Our grommets offer superior electrical insulation and are tailored for cable protection in wire harnesses, electric panels, and automotive wiring systems. Their strong adhesion to metals and precise push-fit installation help ensure a secure, reliable seal, minimizing risk of electrical faults or mechanical wear.

Customizable for Diverse Applications

Available in a wide range of sizes, thicknesses, and diameters, these grommets can be perfectly matched to specific requirements. Manufactured to precise tolerances (0.2 mm), they are suitable for various applications requiring effective sealing and protection, with the added benefit of flexibility and easy installation.

FAQs of Butyl Grommet:

Q: How are butyl grommets installed in wire harnesses or electric panels?

A: Butyl grommets feature an easy push-fit installation, designed to be pressed into pre-drilled holes without specialized tools. Their flexible structure and precise molding ensure a secure fit for cable routing in wire harnesses, electric panels, and similar applications.

Q: What benefits do butyl grommets offer over natural rubber grommets?

A: Butyl grommets provide enhanced UV and ozone resistance, superior electrical insulation, and stronger adhesion to metal surfaces compared to natural rubber. They also offer high aging and weather resistance, ensuring longer operational lifespans in challenging environments.

Q: Where can these grommets be used for optimal performance?

A: They are best suited for wire harnesses, cable protection, electrical enclosures, electric panels, and automotive wiring, especially where exposure to UV, weather, ozone, or fluctuating temperatures is expected.

Q: What is the manufacturing process for these butyl grommets?

A: These grommets are manufactured by molding, which ensures consistent quality, smooth matte finishes, and precise dimensional tolerances. This results in a robust single-piece product with reliable mechanical and electrical characteristics.

Q: When should I choose a butyl grommet for my application?

A: Choose butyl grommets when you require excellent electrical insulation, high resistance to UV and ozone, flexibility, weatherproofing, and extended durability. They are especially suitable for outdoor and industrial installations where other materials may degrade quickly.

Q: What sizes and dimensions are available for these grommets?

A: Sizes are customizable, with commonly used inner diameters ranging from 3 mm to 50 mm, thickness between 2 mm and 8 mm, and precise tolerances of 0.2 mm. Custom specifications can be accommodated for unique project needs.

Q: Are butyl grommets recyclable and how should they be disposed of?

A: Butyl grommets are non-recyclable. After use, they should be disposed of according to local regulations for industrial rubber waste, ensuring environmentally responsible management.
